Infrared sauna – for whom they are suitable

Find out what the therapeutic effects of an infrared sauna are, what the benefits of an infrared sauna are or how to actually sauna in an infrared sauna.

Discovered in Japan in the 1960s, infrared saunas have been used by the general public and studied by scientists and experts ever since. Infrared radiation itself has a beneficial effect on our bodies. Healthy infrared heat is produced while you are in the sauna. This is light in wavelengths that are invisible to the naked eye.

The therapeutic effects of a sauna

Did you know that you can achieve the healing and regenerative effects of a sauna at 60 degrees? If you are not a fan of the classic Finnish sauna, you will be amazed by the effects of the infrared sauna.

Infrared saunas have a great effect on our bodies. They help to relieve stress and tension, eliminate physical aches and pains and other unpleasant effects of a hectic lifestyle. The beneficial effects of an infrared sauna include:

-strengthens the immune system, relieves arthritis, treats eczema and psoriasis, supports blood circulation, improves cellulite, strengthens the heart and relieves tight joints, supports mental health, helps treat skin problems, detoxifies the body, helps with back pain and menstrual cramps.

Many people think that infrared saunas are harmful. This is often because they confuse the beneficial infrared radiation with the harmful UV radiation. Infrared radiation heats the skin to a depth of 3 cm, is beneficial and is used for sauna therapy. UV radiation, on the other hand, is made up of UVA and UVB rays and can be harmful to the skin and eyes in large amounts.

Infrared saunas are great for cleansing and detoxifying the body from harmful substances that the body cannot eliminate. These are usually stored in layers of fat that do not threaten vital organs. In an infrared sauna, these harmful substances are eliminated. According to some sources, the sweat in a Finnish sauna contains between 5 and 7% toxins, whereas the sweat in an infrared sauna contains up to 20% toxins.

What are the benefits of an infrared sauna, or why buy one for your home?

Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of an infrared sauna and why you should buy one for your home. What makes infrared saunas so special?

-Lower temperatures that are comfortable for most people.

-Perspiration is two to three times higher.

-Infrared saunas are more suitable for people with cardiovascular problems.

Location and placement – Infrared saunas can be placed anywhere. You don’t even need a special floor like a Finnish sauna. It can be placed in the bedroom, living room, terrace, bathroom or cellar.

Lower price – small infrared saunas cost less than quality Finnish saunas. The operation itself is comparable to that of a steam iron.

-Easy to assemble and maintain – infrared saunas come in a box – easy to assemble or move. The maintenance itself is simple.

-Low power consumption – for installation you only need a 2.1 kW, 230V/10A, 16A electrical socket.

When should an infrared sauna not be used and who should avoid it?

Infrared saunas are generally well tolerated by all age groups. However, some people may not feel comfortable in an infrared sauna. However, the vast majority of models allow individual temperature settings, so they can be tailored to suit you. Unlike a traditional Finnish sauna, where the body receives heat from the surrounding air, infrared heats the body gradually and evenly over its entire surface. Heating is more intense and faster. Overall, blood circulation is improved and tissues are stretched. Learn how to choose the right sauna for you.

Many people are hypersensitive to heat, even if they can turn the temperature down. In this case it is advisable to choose another method. The most common side effects are severe palpitations, accompanied by nausea and drowsiness, lightheadedness and difficulty breathing. Other side effects include difficulty breathing, dizziness with possible fainting, acute viruses and severe colds, nausea and rapid heartbeat. Pregnant women should consult an infrared doctor.

How should I use the infrared sauna?

It is recommended that you set the temperature to the highest setting before entering the infrared sauna. This will allow you to absorb the full power of the infrared radiation during the sauna session, and if the temperature is set lower, the heaters will switch on and off continuously to maintain the set temperature.

It is recommended that you shower and dry off before using the sauna. You can take a thick washcloth into the sauna and wipe dead skin cells off your face. This will rejuvenate your skin. In general, the best time to take a sauna is in the morning. After waking up, stretch, sweat in the sauna and drink a few glasses of clean water. The best position in an infrared sauna is sitting, as this makes the best use of the heaters.

So how do you go about having a sauna? Plan your sauna session in advance and go through the entire sauna cycle. Leaving the sauna in the middle to get a towel and a drink is uncomfortable and can disrupt the whole sauna process. The infrared sauna procedure itself is not strict. You can adapt the whole cycle to suit you, except for the shower before and after the sauna, and it is not a good idea to skip the rest.

The sauna cycle itself usually lasts between 5 and 20 minutes. For regular sauna sessions, 3 cycles of about 10 minutes are recommended, with at least the same amount of rest between each cycle. Shorter sauna cycles are chosen for morning sauna sessions or preferred by athletes. Longer sauna cycles are chosen by afternoon or evening sauna users. The ideal frequency is 2-3 times per week.

Saunas and how to make your sauna experience more enjoyable

If you visit the sauna regularly, you need to drink about three litres per sauna day. It is recommended that you drink 0.5 litre of unsweetened drink just before the sauna. You will lose up to 2% of your total body fluid during the sauna. Ideally, you should sauna naked or in a sheet or towel. Everything should be 100% cotton. Allow plenty of time for the sauna. Relaxation after the sauna is the most important thing.

You can make the sauna more pleasant by using sauna scents. Aromatherapy is a good addition not only to herbal saunas. You can scent your infrared sauna with essential oil bowls, diffusers or scented towels. Various scrapers and scrubs are also used. The heat opens the pores and makes it easier to absorb the beneficial substances contained in the scrub. Usually a small sauna scraper is all that is needed, and at the end of the sauna session you massage your body.

Infrared saunas are often equipped with light therapy. The method is called chromotherapy and it is recommended to choose one colour per cycle from the different colour spectrum options. Each colour has a different effect on the body. Yellow, red and orange are stimulating and warming. The colours of the cold spectrum (violet, turquoise, blue) have a calming and relaxing effect.
