Garden saunas: a guide to choosing the right one

Introducing the guide to choosing a garden saunas. Read about the most important aspects to consider and what not to forget.
Imagine that your garden sauna is just a few steps away from your house and that you can use it whenever you want to work out or relax. That’s the magic of a garden sauna. You can get together with friends and have a sauna in the middle of the garden or turn your sauna into an oasis of peace. There are a number of decisions you need to make before you start building your new sauna. Let’s take a look at them.
Garden saunas and the latest trends
Recently, people have become increasingly interested in boosting their immunity. Many of them no longer want to go to the traditional spa or sauna world and prefer to have a designer and practical sauna in the garden. The choice of sauna is a question of aesthetics and also depends on who will use the sauna, how often and by whom.
Most people choose a log cabin sauna. This has a classic look and is usually made of red cedar with tongue and groove. The sauna looks a bit like a miniature log cabin with a square or rectangular shape and a pitched roof. Sauna log cabins have been popular since the 19th century and are based on a tried and tested design. If you are looking for austerity and simplicity, log saunas are the ideal solution.
The GLAMP garden saunas will become a premium feature in your garden. It is a luxurious outdoor house that blends in with your garden. Inside you will find a designer sauna with shower and relaxation room. So you have everything together and you can do the whole sauna cycle right inside the sauna house. The garden sauna house also offers a choice of different types of wood.
Barrel saunas are the latest trend. A barrel sauna usually has two circular ends that are joined together with cedar using a tongue and groove construction method. Unlike a log sauna, a barrel sauna is striking and designed to impress. Because of its rounded shape, it heats 23% less volume than a cabin sauna. The rounded roof promotes excellent air circulation. This means that the temperature is maintained evenly throughout the sauna. The downside is that tall people may not be able to fit in 🙂 .
Garden saunas and its advantages
A garden sauna has many advantages. Apart from the health benefits, it can also transform your garden and increase the value of your home and property. What are the main advantages of a garden sauna?
Boost your immunity – regular sauna sessions can reduce the risk of viral illnesses by up to 65%.
Relieves stress and tension – Sauna sessions help you relax after a long day, soothe sore feet and relieve the tension and stress of the day.
Turn your garden into an oasis of calm – A garden sauna is also an aesthetic affair, transforming your garden to suit your taste. Create a place to escape and reconnect with nature.
Increase the value of your home and garden – a luxury garden sauna will increase the value of your home and garden, just like a swimming pool or hot tub.
Key factors when choosing a garden saunas
The perfect garden sauna requires several decisions. Let’s take a look at the key factors you need to consider.
Location and accessibility. What type of sauna suits you?
Capacity. Saunas come in a variety of sizes, from intimate two-person saunas to larger models that can accommodate a whole group.
Choice of materials: High-quality wood is the basis for a sauna’s comfort and durability. Popular choices include cedar, which smells great and resists moisture; spruce, with its smooth finish and natural look; fir, maple, hemlock, walnut and more.
Heating options: You need to decide on the type of heating that suits your style. Electric stoves are low maintenance and heat up quickly. Wood-burning stoves give a rustic feel and are ideal if you like the sound of a crackling fire.
Work out your budget beforehand: you can get a garden sauna in different price ranges. From DIY kits to the most luxurious and designer saunas. The price range will narrow down your choice.
Climate and location: You need to consider where the sauna will be located. Do you live in the mountains or in a windier or warmer area? Specialists will recommend materials to suit. In cold weather, insulation can help keep you warm.
A garden sauna can be glazed to give a view of the surroundings. It can have one or more glass walls, and you can have only the entrance door glazed.
What type of sauna should I choose?
Many people choose a classic Finnish sauna for their garden sauna. Nowadays, however, you can also choose a combination sauna or any other sauna that you feel comfortable with. What types are there to choose from?
The traditional Finnish sauna is the most popular type of sauna. A Finnish sauna is heated to between 90 and 105°C and contains dry air with a humidity of around 5%. You should not spend more than 15 minutes in the sauna. After that, a first break of 15 to 20 minutes is recommended, followed by another cycle of 15 minutes, then a second break of 30 to 40 minutes and finally a final cycle of 15 minutes. The effectiveness of the Finnish sauna is increased by pouring water over the hot stones.
The steam sauna is characterised by a very high humidity of up to 100% and lower temperatures between 40 and 50°C. The steam is produced by a steam generator, which works on the same principle as a kettle.
The bio or herbal sauna is suitable for a wide range of users. In the herbal sauna, the temperature is kept between 30 and 50°C, while in the bio sauna it reaches around 60°C. Despite the lower temperatures, you can enjoy increased humidity. These types of saunas are usually enriched with herbs and aromatherapy, which have beneficial effects on the respiratory system and skin.
